About this event

Join us for the second session of our Silver Science series; a free interactive workshop for seniors, hosted by Libraries in collaboration with Tūhura Otago Museum.

Learn about the Sun and the solar cycle, and discover how massive space weather events (what NASA has nicknamed a solar tsunami) that can produce awe-inspiring aurora can also disrupt our electricity grid.

Hear about the world-leading research project, led by the University of Otago, that has resulted in Aotearoa New Zealand being the only country in the world with a plan to protect our electrical grid from the next big solar tsunami.
